The Friends of Cedar Hill Park have been active in maintaining the natural areas of the Park since 2006. Our work is done in the natural areas of the Park outside golf course boundaries under the Saanich Pulling Together Volunteer Program.
Weekly invasive species removal at preplanned areas of the Park: We work under the direction of Lead Steward, Jim Moores every Monday morning from 9 am until 12 noon. Please let us know if you would like to join us through our email address: FriendsofCedarHillPark@gmail.com
This Monday (March 25th) we’ll return to the southwest corner of the park where we were last Monday opposite the City of Victoria homes. We’ll finish off where we worked. I’m not sure what is left to do but we agreed to return. In the open area worked before we’ll prep the area by removing blackberry roots, invasive “bluebell” bulbs and trash. I’ll bring some tools. As usual cut any other Himalayan blackberry that has sprouted and any other invasive plants such as Daphne, ivy, broom. Check the Garry oaks & other plants for any ivy growth up the trunk/stem. Cut plants at the ground surface and toss all cuttings aside. It will rot. If we finish early we’ll move to the slopes at the end of Ocean View. Watch for camas that has sprouted.
Usual time is 9:00 am to noon. Meet at our sign beside the trail.
If driving, you can park in one of the parking lots accessed off Finlayson Street or on the side of Finlayson Street itself.
Thank you for your volunteer time & work!
At your request, we will add you to our weekly email to advise where we will meet. You will need good boots, old clothes and garden gloves. We will provide the necessary tools. No experience is necessary.
