The Friends of Cedar Hill Park have been active in maintaining the natural areas of the Park since 2006. Our work is done in the natural areas of the Park outside golf course boundaries under the Saanich Pulling Together Volunteer Program.
Weekly invasive species removal at preplanned areas of the Park: We work under the direction of Lead Steward, Jim Moores every Monday morning from 9 am until 12 noon. Please let us know if you would like to join us through our email address: FriendsofCedarHillPark@gmail.com
Monday January 21st, we will continue working southward to Derby from where we left off last Monday. I’ve not moved our sign from near the garbage barrel. The areas shown have been worked before but they have some Himalayan blackberry regrowth. There is also some broom sprouts along the edge of the upper parking lot. Pull or clip that. The berm has blackberry regrowth as well as some other plants. I’ll be starting early so that I can leave the area before the golfers reach the area. I’ll wear my hard hat. Others can work near the chainlink fencing at the south end. As usual cut any blackberry that has sprouted and any other invasive plants such as Daphne, ivy, broom. Check the Garry oaks & other plants for any ivy growth up the trunk/stem. Cut that ivy at the ground surface and toss all cuttings aside. It will rot.
Usual time is 9:00 am to noon. Meet at our sign beside the trail. If driving, you can park in one of the parking lots at the golf course clubhouse.
Thank you for your volunteer time & work!
At your request, we will add you to our weekly email to advise where we will meet. You will need good boots, old clothes and garden gloves. We will provide the necessary tools. No experience is necessary.
