The Friends of Cedar Hill Park have been active in maintaining the natural areas of the Park since 2006. Our work is done in the natural areas of the Park outside golf course boundaries under the Saanich Pulling Together Volunteer Program.
Weekly invasive species removal at preplanned areas of the Park: We work under the direction of Lead Steward, Jim Moores every Monday morning from 9 am until 12 noon. Please let us know if you would like to join us through our email address: FriendsofCedarHillPark@gmail.com
In consideration of the birds that will be nesting, Monday (April 23rd) we’ll return to the area we worked last Monday near Glacier Place. The growth of the snowberry is responding well and there is little regrowth of blackberry. We'll work south of the area we worked last Monday and will continue removing ivy along both sides of the chip trail. There is some broom out near Diana and a patch of periwinkle on the east of the trail to remove. There are some fawn lilies along this part of the trail. We hope to encourage more fawn lilies to grow as we have along the trail on the west side.
There is a nuthatch nest hanging in a tree by our sign. I think I heard the young calling out. (Maybe it was my imagination!) The areas are shown on the attached map.
Usual time is 9:00 am to noon. Meet at our Pulling Together sign board. Hope to see you there for any time you can spare.
Thank you for your volunteer work!
At your request, we will add you to our weekly email to advise where we will meet. You will need good boots, old clothes and garden gloves. We will provide the necessary tools. No experience is necessary.
