The Friends of Cedar Hill Park have been active in maintaining the natural areas of the Park since 2006. Our work is done in the natural areas of the Park outside golf course boundaries under the Saanich Pulling Together Volunteer Program.
Weekly invasive species removal at preplanned areas of the Park: We work under the direction of Lead Steward, Jim Moores every Monday morning from 9 am until 12 noon. Please let us know if you would like to join us through our email address: FriendsofCedarHillPark@gmail.com
On Monday, June 18th, we'll work on the slope at the entry from Ocean View Road. This is an open south facing slope. We'll cut any blackberry that has sprouted and any other invasive plants such as Daphne. Cut the blackberry tight to the ground and chop it up some so that it will lie flat and eventually rot. The slope has lots of camas that is past blooming and is setting seed. Be careful not to tramp the plants. There is some bracken fern near the chip trail. Don't cut those. Watch & listen for golfers driving from tee #6. Most balls will go overhead but some may fall short. Wear a hard hat if you will be working out near the east limit of the work area. Otherwise it is safer to work near the trail. The areas are shown on the attached map.
Usual time is 9:00 am to noon. Meet at our Pulling Together sign board. If driving there is limited parking along Ocean View Road. This is the western section of Ocean View that you access of Maplewood.
Thank you for your volunteer time & work!
